* Asia is ruled out because: - The Atlanteans invaded Europe up to Tyrrhenia (Italy) & Libya (Africa) up to Egypt [from the west] (Timaeus 25b, Critias 114d). - Asia hasn't sunk/submerged (Timaeus 25d). - Atlantis was in the Atlantic (Timaeus 25a, Critias 114b). - Atlantis was separate land mass to "Libya & Asia", "Europe & Asia". Atlantis was larger that Asia and Libya together (Timaeus 25a, Critias 109a). The Atlanteans came "against the whole of Europe and Asia" (Timaeus 25a). - Atlantis was beyond the pillars of Hercules "at Gibraltar" (Timaeus 25a, Critias 114c). - Atlas is in n.w. Africa. - Atlantis was in the "west(ern sea)" according to one classical source.
* Australia is ruled out because: - Atlanteans invaded Europe up to Tyrrhenia (Italy) & Libya (Africa) up to Egypt [from the west] (Timaeus 25b, Critias 114d). - Atlantis was in the Atlantic (Timaeus 25a, Critias 114b). - Atlantis was beyond the pillars of Hercules "at Gibraltar" (Timaeus 25a, Critias 114c). - It has been said that there is no one who has placed Atlantis in Australia (though i think i have even seen/heard of one source that has). - Australia hasn't sunk (Timaeus 25d).
* Oceania is ruled out because - Atlanteans invaded Europe up to Tyrrhenia (Italy) & Libya (Africa) up to Egypt [from the west] (Timaeus 25b, Critias 114d) (re Oceania on the east side of world maps). - There is an intervening landmass of Americas between Oceania and the Old World (re Oceania on the west side of world maps), and intervening landmass of Asia and Australia (re Oceania on the east side of world maps). - There is no sunken/submerged large landmass in the Pacific ocean except for the Zealandia landbridge and seamounts, though Childress claimed some evidence for one. - Of Oceania only the Pacific coast of the Americas is ruled in because the "Atlantic" ocean/sea that Atlantis/America is in is really on both sides of Atlantis/America.
* Atlantis as the "8th continent" in the Atlantic is ruled out because: - There are no sunken/submerged large landmasses in the Atlantic. - The mid-Atlantic is emerging up and outwards not down and inwards. - There are no large enough gaps between Americas and the Old World in maps of Pangaea. - The Atlantic is an ocean not a pelagos.
* Antarctica is ruled out because: - Antarctica is too far down/south to be opposite that pillars of Hercules (Timaeus 25a, Critias 114c), and to have invaded Europe up to Tyrrhenia and Libya up to Egypt from the west (Timaeus 25b, Critias 114d), and to match Kircher's map. - No ice is mentioned in the Atlantis Account. - No ancient civilisation has been found in Antarctica yet. - Antarctica was 2 islands not one landmass. - No indication of Atlantis being in Antarctica on Piri Reis map? - Antarctica is not sunken/submerged (Timaeus 25d).
* Europe is ruled out because: - Atlas is in Africa not in Spain/Europe. - Atlantis was not in the inner Mediterranean sea but in the outer real ocean (Timaeus 25a-b). - Atlantis was in the Atlantic (Timaeus 25a, Critias 114b). - Atlantis was separate land mass to "Europe & Libya", "Europe & Asia". The Atlanteans came "against the whole of Europe and Asia" (Timaeus 25a). Atlanteans invaded Europe up to Tyrrhenia (Italy) & Libya (Africa) up to Egypt from further west (Timaeus 25b) and attempted to enslave "all the territory within the strait" (Timaeus 25c). - Atlantis was beyond the pillars of Hercules "at Gibraltar" (Timaeus 25a, Critias 114c). - It has been stated that such a system of extensive canals has never been seen in Europe. - Atlantis was opposite/beyond Gadeira/Gades and Atlas (Critias 114c). - "not far to the west of Europe ... memory of a larger island" (Proclus). - Atlantis was a large landmass. Thera, Crete, Heligoland are too small unless one includes the neighbouring mainland. - Europe is not sunken (Timaeus 25d). - Tartessos 7000 years is after Atlantis 9000 years. (- Meropis was larger than Asia, Libya & Europe (Theopompus).)
* Africa ("Libya") is ruled out because: - Atlantis was not in the inner Mediterranean sea but in the outer real ocean (Timaeus 25a-b). - Atlanteans invaded Europe up to Tyrrhenia (Italy) & Libya (Africa) up to Egypt [from the west] (Timaeus 25b, Critias 114d). - Atlanteans invaded "from next Libya" (Timaeus 25b, Critias 114d). - Atlantis was in the Atlantic (Timaeus 25a, Critias 114b). - Atlantis was separate land mass to "Europe & Libya", "Libya & Asia". Atlantis was larger that Asia and Libya together (Timaeus 25a, Critias 109a). - Atlantis was beyond the pillars of Hercules (Timaeus 25a, Critias 114c). - Diodorus Siculus says Atlantis was "out in deep off Libya (Africa) a number of days sail to west". - Atlantis was opposite/beyond Gadeira/Gades and Atlas (Critias 114c). - Gadeira/Gades was in Spain not in Africa (unless Gadeira is Agadir not Gades). - Africa/Libya is not sank/sunk (Timaeus 25d).
* Americas are ruled in because: - Atlantis was separate land mass to "Europe & Libya", "Libya & Asia", "Europe & Asia" (Timaeus 25a, 25b, Critias 109a, 114d). - Atlantis was not in the inner Mediterranean sea but in the outer real ocean (Timaeus 25a-b). - Statue in Azores pointing west with word "this way". - Diodorus Siculus says Atlantis was "out in deep off Libya (Africa) a number of days sail to west". - Atlantis was beyond the pillars of Hercules "at Gibraltar" (Timaeus 25a, Critias 114c). - There are no large sunken/submerged landmasses in the Atlantic between the Old World and the New World, and so America must be Atlantis not the Opposite Continent beyond Atlantis. - Although the Americas are not sank/sunk/submerged (Timaeus 25d) they may have appeared to have sank/sunk in a continental shift or crust displacement, or only the royal island capital city of Atlantis may have sank/sunk (as Tiahuanaco/Tiwanaku did).
So of all the 7 continents we rule out all of them except for the Americas.
Claim: "Herodotus said there were only 3 continents of Europe, Asia and Libya/Africa. The Egyptians did not travel very far from Egypt."
On the contrary I thought I read in Herodotus or secondary source that he said his contemproaries were wrong that there were only those 3 continents? Also Herodotus suggested there were Hypernotians as well as Hyperboreans. Besides which, what Herodotus and his contemporaries thought only reflects what only they themselves thought at that time. The Atlantis Account implies that the known world contracted. The Account says the Atlanteans were distant and unmixed with other mortal stock. The Phoenicians kept their trade routes secret? There are lots of evidences of contacts between the Old and New Worlds (see Barry Fell, Pierre Honore, Nigel Davies, Z Sitchin 'Lost Realms', T Heyerdahl, G Hancock, Don Mackenzie, Jim Allen, etc). The maps of the ancient sea kings of Hapgood imply they knew the world. The Popul Vuh says the 1st race explored the 4 points of the world. Classical sources mention other lands such as Atlantis, Meropis, Hyperborea, Saturnia, Ogygia, Phaeacia/Scheria, Hesperides, Antilla, Tartessos, the islands of Zeus/Jupiter/Ammon & Poseidon/Neptune/Atlantis & Hades/Pluto, Thule, Albion, Colchis, Antichthones, Erythia, Cassiterides, Elysium, Aeria, Chronian sea, Ethiopian sea, etc. Odysseus and Hercules and the Argonauts travelled quite far. The Phaeacians were said to be great sailors. The Hindus knew the world was a sphere. They knew of lands like Curu, Sumeru/Meru, Ameru, Atala, Sutala, Patala, Vishnukranta, Kusa, Ruta, Daitya, etc. The Bible knows of other lands like Ophir, Sheba, Tarshish, Caphtor, etc. The Egyptians knew some other lands like Amenti, Aaru, Pet, Tuat, Urani/Wernes "land of the sunset", Aeria, Punt or Toneter, Atlantis, Island of the gods, Mt Manu, etc. Sesostris is said to have travelled some distance. The Great Pyramid's geodesic information has knowledge of the globe or northern hemisphere encoded in it. The Piri Reis map is centred on Cairo/Giza. Joseph's famine was worldwide and the bible says other nations came to Egypt for grain. Necho's fleet circumnavigated Africa before Solon & Herodotus & Plato. The Sumerians & Akkadians knew of some other lands or nagus like Dilmun, Magan, Meluhha, Gubi, Arali/Aralu, Mashu, Anaku, etc. Gilgamesh "knew the countries of the world" and travelled a great distance to see Utnapishtim. Heyerdahl showed that the Sumerians and Egyptians and Americans and Polynesians could have travelled great distances. The Atlantis Account seems to imply that Atlantis was a separate large landmass to "Europe & Asia", "Asia & Libya", "Europe & Libya".
