Favourite would be Teutonic.
Best? I would give it to the Hospitallers for two reasons:
1) Malta
2) Longevity - you can still be a member of the order today.

A very difficult question but I will go for Hospitallers as the "best".
There succesful defence of Malta and Rhodes at multiple times in thier
history and thier early distinguishment in the near east is incredibly
impressive. In my opinion there are only two others worth considering
in terms of military power and influence for the top spot and those are
the Teutonic Knights and the Templars. The order of the Dragon isn't
even the same type of order but a largely secular, honorary club for
Emperor Sigismunds key allies.

I agree for these exact same reasons, as well as their famed
performance at Rhodes, enough to convince the Sultan to let them leave
as honourable men.

Templars!
There are no others like them.
Besides, theirs influence in hermetism is quite interesting.

so you guys don't believe that the templars are the fore fathers of the freemasons and that they invented the bank book or check.
or what this web site says:

Gargoyle is Displeased with you Janus because you sort of Ridiculed my friend the Platypus! I feel an Apology is in order here... Platypie are very sensitive Creatures.
I am very serious about creating an Order of the Gargoyle! One has already sketched a few designs concerning Regalia and Medals. I'm not sure yet what our Mission will be though... any suggestions are as always Welcome.

I'm sorry if I offended the loveable monotreme. I just said that he messes with peoples heads, I mean they are very intelligent and crafty creatures who enjoy friendly pranks.

Yes you did JanusRook, and Garoyle appreciates your Birthday Present... but this is different... you want to be the Grandmaster of what could quite possibly become the Greatest Organization Ever... that may one day Rule the Entire Universe! Gargoyle simply cannot take this Risk without knowing more about YOU!
Especially when one sees that you send Passenger Aircraft on their way Patched up and Stuck together with Duck Tape!?

majority of you guys voted for the hospitaller, are this the legacy to the hospitallers?
Switzerland and Denmark
because they looked like the flag of the sovereign military order of malta.

Hospitallers managed to be both military order and to keep maintaining hospitals. They were strong enough to survive against all ods and change their HQ many times but not too strong to be destroyed by their own kings like the templars. In the Holy Lands they had the strongest castle- Krak des Chevaliers. They defended Rodos in an almost perfect way and then Malta even braver.I believe the templars are much more popular and might have been a bit stronger but they turned in something like a state(like the teutons did) while the hospitallers remained true to their oughts-to be an order in deffence of christianity. They were the greatest.
