There're many formers here who stated that the original Mongol clans had been disappeared in the present Mongolia and/or Inner Mongolia, they probably noticed those larger tribes among the Mongols such as Halhas, Buryats, Kalmyks(Oirad), and Inner Mongolian tribes(Chahar, Horchin, Kharchin, Ordos, Tumed, Bargud, etc), however they couldn't find out the ethnic links between the present tribes and those ancient Mongol clans(Nirun or Darligin). I have already given the informations about how the Khongirats(Onggirat, one of the Darligin Mongol clans) were absorbed into the present tribes(Tumed and South Halha) in the later history of the Mongols. http://www.allempires.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=6242&PN=2&TPN=1 - http://www.allempires.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=6242& ;PN=2&TPN=1
I would like to continue my work on this topic. It's for the clan of the Urud/Uruchud/Urugud, one of the Nirun Mongols today.
The Urud had the closer original links with other 2 Nirun clans Mangud and Noyakin. Their clan name seemed to get from their ancestor Uruchutai, a Mongol noble. The Urud were the ally of the Taichud Mongols(one of the Nirun clans too) who ever struggled against Chinggis Khan. Chinggis Khan conquered them and unified the Urud as one of the most important power to conquer other larger tribes such as the Kheriets.
During Yuan dynasty, we know the Urud were one of 5 tribes who have been living in the present South-eastern steppe of Inner Mongolia. After the Mongols lost their rule on the Chinese, the southern steppe became the batterfield of the Mongols and the Ming Chinese soon, so the Urud and other 4 tribes(Khongirat, Ujiyed, Mangud and Ikiras) retreated to the Northern steppe from the Southern homeland, and we also lost the historical clues about this tribe.
During the Northern Yuan period, the Urud clan appeared in at least 3 larger tribes: Tumed, Chahar and Choros(Known as the Dzungar later).
The Tumed tumen(10,000 families) comprised 12 or more sub-clans, one of them was the Urud. we know the chief of the Urud was the prince Namur Taiyji (the grandson of the Tumed's the greatest leader Altan Khan). The tumen was named followed the most powerful clan Tumed, which had an ethnic link with the present Turkic group the Tuva, and another powerful clan of this tumen was the Mongolchin, who seemed to have an original links with the Merkits.
The Chahar comprised 8 sub-clans, who the strongest power in the Mongol Khanate, and directly led by the great Khan. The Urud was one of the 8 Chahar tribes. After the Last Mongol great Khan Lingdan was defeated by the Manchus, the Urud were eventually absorded into the Manchu's Banners, and imgrated into the territory of the Chinese following them later.
The Choros(Dzungar) tribe of the western Mongols (the Oirad) also compirsed the Urud clan. The Choros was the ruling tribe among the Oirad, and the most power group in the Mongol khanate till they were defeated and slaughtered by the Manchus. The core elements of the Choros seemed to have the original links with the ancient Uygur Khanate in Mongolia according to their original legend.
