Mrocco is a mix of Arabic and Berber. Parts of the country are still primarily Berber speaking, but Arabic dominates in the main urban areas, except for Marrakech where Berber is supposed to be dominant.

when it comes to arabic music, i'd like to mention the most known and used key in arabic musicology-in traditional classical Turkish music (i guess, not sure, correct me if i'm wrong) known as "hicaz"(hidjaz)

it's a heptatonic key, i mean when you go up/down, untill the next octave of the starting note, you get 7 different notes.

so if we start with E(mi) it goes like this (without commas);

E(mi) - F(fa) - G#(sol diyez) - A(la) - B(si) - C(do) - D#(re diyez) - E(mi)

So I also made some records with my guitar!!!

Here is the basic key of hicaz: http://www.allempires.com/forum/uploads/YAFES/2005-06-19_101604_gam.rar - 2005-06-19_101604_gam.rar

and a sample solo with my ass-kicking style: http://www.allempires.com/forum/uploads/YAFES/2005-06-19_102034_2.rar - 2005-06-19_102034_2.rar

Umm kalthom

This woman had a strong influence in Turkey, too. A new style of music came into being in the 70s and reached its peak in the 80s in Turkey, called 'Arabesk', partly due to her influence. Today it is not as popular as it used to be. Turkish pop (a la Tarkan) has taken over.

Girls are awesome man, thanks

actually I'm looking for a song from late 90's maybe 2000.I don't know the singer(he was a male in his 20's) I don't know the title nor the lyrics.I think he was a north African like Taha or Khaled, reason French tvs were showing his movie clip everyday. What I remember is the video clip.Guy was chasing a girl whereever she goes and she was running from him.guy was so desperate but the girl didn't even care but he never gave up.At the end of the clip the girl got into a plane and flew away but he was still chasing her.clip had ended while he was runnig after the plane. In the clip he rode motorcycles, buses maybe subway as well and etc...

any help would be kindly appreciated

Thank you so much Azimuth. I loved the songs you posted for Sa´doon Jaber. I found out that the song I was looking for is an old song called "Ani Entehyt" - I'm finished, for Habib Ali, an Iraqi too. That song is so depressing . Kinda similar to other depressing Arabesk songs hahaha.

Unfortunately the best about the song is the lyrics actually.  Just click on his chubby face

The Muwashahat     ÇáãæÔÍÇÊ

El Interprete de los DeseosEl Interprete de los Deseos

The Muwashahat is an Arabic poetry-a post classical form of Arab poetry arranged in stanzas and with free prosodythat has spread from Andalucia to Iraq. I will present to you a brief history note of its origin and a list of famous Muwashahat songs:

In folk poetry, It is noted that the blind poet Muqaddam Ibn Mu'afi Al Oabri from the town of Oabra, in Cordoba province was the inventor of the Muwashahat. The poet Abu Bakr Mohammad Ibn Oazman Al Ourtubi 1114 A.D invented another form called 'Zajal' which he used to sing in the market place accompanied by instruments and singers. It is to be noticed that both the Muwashaha and the Zajal are similar; however the Al Muwashaha is purely Arabic save its epilogue which was in Spanish or Spanish vernacular. Zajal on the other hand was in colloquial dialect with some Spanish words. This Spanish folk song with its epilogue and Al Zajal later on influenced not only Arabic Poetry but also the poetry that emerged in southern Europe at the end of the 11th century A.D. Roving singers known as troubadours in northen Spain used this new style. It is also said that the songs, known as 'villancico' and sung by the Spanish people during Christmas festivities, were Andalusian Zajal.

Examples of Muwashahat:

-

Imlali Al Aqdah Arabic Music Ensemble
- Mala Al Kassat Um Kalthoum's Ensemble
- Muwashah Indulisi Ali Muftah
- Teih Al Nudman Naqabt Al Mu'allemin - Syria
- Ya Faten Al Ghezlan Sabri Mudallal's Ensemble
- Ya Ra'i Al Dhiba Al Ferqa Al Qawmiya Al Arabiya

Azimuth, our instant gratification guy, I know you will help me with this. Can you find me a song for Latifa. I found the clip long time ago but stupid me didn't save it on computer and they cleared it from the site.

The clip is called "Ela To3'a6 Al Alam" "To all tyrants of the world"

It is a famous poets of Abu Al Qassim Al Shabbi.

If you can find me the clip or even the song itself i will be deeply appreciated. (Just to warn you, I spent a week searching)

This is an Arabic song with the English translation, I didn't translate it but I did fix it a bit though...

it's called Elhilm Elarabi = Arabian dream

here's the song link if u want to hear it while reading

http://songs.6arab.com/various-singers..el-7elm-el3arabi.ram - El 7ilm el 3araby

generations after generations will live to our dreams.
And what we say today will be a life commitment.

Chorus:
Perhaps the darkness of the night would distance us,
But Rays of light would reach to furthest sky.
This is our dream, for all our live, an embrace to enfold us all, all of us.

To dream is not impossible , as long as fulfillment is conceivable.
And as long as the night lasts, it's definitely followed bya dawn.

Live up to all that you are, even when the truth is the difficult path.
Try, and you shall reach{up high}; the dignity of the attempt alone in enough.

Chorus:
Perhaps the darkness of the night would distance us,
But Rays of light would reach to furthest sky.
This is our dream, for all our live, an embrace to enfold us all, all of us.

Prove yourself on your own Time; believe in your ambitions, you will succeed.
Let your eyes see the truth, and so the truth will be seen by others.

Challenge the world and revolt, and learn to remain courageous.
The journey of a thousand miles, starts with a single step.

Chorus:
Perhaps the darkness of the night would distance us,
But Rays of light would reach to furthest sky.
This is our dream, for all our live, an embrace to enfold us all, all of us.

Justice needs strength, in order to support/protect it.
Never, by rhetoric and complaints, will the rightful land return.

Love that has a sparking fire, and eyes filled with hope.
Children, with stones in their hands, will reinvent the world.

Chorus:
Perhaps the darkness of the night would distance us,
But Rays of light would reach to furthest sky.
This is our dream, for all our live, an embrace to enfold us all, all of us.
.

From every land that speaks the "dhad" language{Aarabic}.
And with loudest voice and heartbeat, we call for a unity a rebirth

Our children everywhere, are enlightment for a truth seeker in every nation.

Righteousness, Love, Goodness ... , are our message of all Time

Chorus:
Perhaps the darkness of the night would distance us,
But Rays of light would reach to furthest sky.
This is our dream, for all our live, an embrace to enfold us all, all of us.

Sing along and say: Art is aspiration and success.
From sadness, we create joy, from our thoughts, a path and a life.

A Righteousness word in a song, is spoken and in a second it's gone;
Perhaps and after years{overtime}, it{thje word} may change the world.

Chorus:
Perhaps the darkness of the night would distance us,
But Rays of light would reach to furthest sky.
This is our dream, for all our live, an embrace to enfold us all, all of us.

Let the hopes be true, and plan your time well{don't waste it}.
For all closed-end ways, Love would find an open door.

The song delets/overcome borders, and the heart is its nation;
We'll sing as long as we live, and as long as we could, we'll love...

Chorus:
Perhaps the darkness of the night would distance us,
But Rays of light would reach to furthest sky.
This is our dream, for all our live, an embrace to enfold us all, all of us

Love is not just a word, it's feelings and physical.
Be a light, a smile, a song, and a guide for others along the path

Our dream, for all Time, is the unity of all nations.
All disagreements would disappear; it is enough{after all} you are {only}human.

Chorus:
Perhaps the darkness of the night would distance us,
But Rays of light would reach to furthest sky.
This is our dream, for all our live, an embrace to enfold us all, all of us

When you away from home{land}, you're talent is who ou are/your country; you'll find the proof wherever you go.
Sing for people of friendship, you'll find the world to be beautiful

Love in all the languages{international}, and make years pass by like seconds.
The bird's destiny is to fly, and our destiny is to sing songs.

Chorus:
Perhaps the darkness of the night would distance us,
But Rays of light would reach to furthest sky.
This is our dream, for all our live, an embrace to enfold us all, all of us

We hope our dreams come truel, and break all hardened silences.
For although in many times righeousness is shining-bright, people call craziness.

Like the tree, it was a seed, and the story was an idea.
And since we love and dream, we'll find/reach the {right} path of the future

Chorus:
Perhaps the darkness of the night would distance us,
But Rays of light would reach to furthest sky.
This is our dream, for all our live, an embrace to enfold us all, all of us

Why not?   Its a beautiful language, and its nice to know what people are saying in it. Besides, as you already know, its really very similar to Hebrew, so its not as much of a headache for me as for the average monoglot.

Also, im working on a MA in Mid East studies, so its therefore helpful to be familiar with Arabic. Mind you, im not very good, ive been putting more effort into learning Farsi.

Thanx for the effort 1001 nights. It's a very beautiful and meaningful song.Have heard it about 12 times since this morning.Listening right now.

I've heard Sidi Mansour. Is it a Moroccan song?Have heard 3 versions.....including the Remix.Best I like is the traditional one.Usually can't find it on Morpheus though.

If you have time and energy plz translate Ya Rayah.I know a bit about meaning of the title.

Some Random Comments on this thread and the members participating in it.

Was surprised this thread was started by Azimuth.Used to think he is a fundamentalist Wahabi out to convert the whole world by hook or by crook. And Azimuth beware of Halevi. He is an agent of Mossad.Wonder how you'll make sure what his intentions are/faith is when he comes to offer prayers in Mecca.

Halevi check my signature.Nice to know you do believe in something.Shall we start a thread in the intellectual section to find out if that thing is imaginary/real?

Yes, i admit. Gyadu and i are both agents of a vast international Jewish-Indian conspiracy to divide and conquer all Muslim land. Our current mission is to inflitrate Arabic entertainment circles and spread our evil secularist propaganda.     Now that i have told you this, i must self destruct.

Stop confusing our Arab friends comrade Halevi. It's an open secret that the conspiracy is a Hindu-Israeli one and the ultimate aim is to convert all Arabs to the free-masonary language.

And please

Stick to the topic....

it's called Elhilm Elarabi = Arabian dream

here's the song link if u want to hear it while reading

http://songs.6arab.com/various-singers..el-7elm-el3arabi.ram - El 7ilm el 3araby

generations after generations will live to our dreams.

A Righteousness word in a song, is spoken and in a second it's gone;

The song delets/overcome borders, and the heart is its nation;

A'ayesh (ain-alef-ya-shin), as far as i know, means 'alive'... (and/or 'content' .. azimuth... ?)

Interestingly, it comes from the proto-semitic root that means "flame" .. i think.

For instance, a'ish, in hebrew, mean fire, or flame.

EDIT: Im wrong. I got the root mixed up.

hmm, any connotation to the similarity of the English word, "ash" ?

I really like the sounds of Arabic and Mid Eastern music. The first song to ever catch my attention from that region, is the song  (I believe its called).."1 2 3 Soleil" by Cheb Khaled and Rachid Taha.
This may not be the actual name, but its what I have it under in my Limewire file.
 I assume its quite popular.
