Hello forum.
My dad offered me this medallion but I can't recognize who the man in it is. Could you please help me find out who he is? I would be eternally grateful.

Well I don't have any particular information.
My dad bought it in some old antique shop and he doesn't have a clue about the guy in the medallion. 
I'm trying to figure it out myself Confused.

 I don’t think its Mendeleev ( or Mendeleyev). He  has a straight nose on coins, see here:

The person in the link below ( chemist August-Wilhelm-von-Hofmann )has a similar nose and beard on coins but I don't think its him either.

Maybe a numastist (coin specialist) knows.  Besides medals, commemorative coins could exist.
