Bella gerant fortes: tu, felix Austria, nube’ (‘The strong make war; you, happy Austria, marry) King Matyas Corvinus.

The Habsburg Empire manged to gain territories through tactical marriages. This did seem to work for them in a sense. But was King Matyas Corvinus’s assesment on the rise of Austria an accurate one?
