This ancient road which is believed to be the spice road, a branch of Silk route going to India, was discovered in the Lut desert in the southwest of Iran, archaeologists believe it dates back to the Parthian era (247 BC - 224 AD). This road can lead to discovery of many other ancient buildings and even lost villages and cities in the desert. Original length of the spice road seems to be several hundreds km, what was found in the Lut desert is about 10 km, about 5 km of mountainous part of this road had been found before near the city of Jahrom in the south of Iran: http://www.tebyan.net/newindex.aspx?pid=154080 - http://www.tebyan.net/newindex.aspx?pid=154080

This read was discovered in the north of the city of Fahraj in Kerman province, as I looked to the map, there doesn't seem to be any city or village in this region for hundreds km, of course it could be different in the ancient times.

It looks as if you could just run a good sized front loader down it to widen it, and it would be serviceable.

Some of the modern roads around here are in worse shape.
