A potters paradise? Man, look at that seam of dark red clay running through the mountains. Red indicates a high Iron content in the clay, usually an indicator of the Temperature the clay matures at when fired.
It's interesting how the red Iron oxide from the hills has colored everything surrounding. ------------- "Arguing with someone who hates you or your ideas, is like playing chess with a pigeon. Abyaneh is one of my favourite villages in Iran, it reminds me of Aladdin game that I played when I was a kid:
 It is said there are 30 wonderful villages in Iran, Abyaneh is one of them, these are some other ones:

Now the name Timbuktu is used to denote distance, unknown situations etc. It's interesting that a settlement near me was named Timbuktu. It was one of the earliest settlements for freed and escaped slaves. Known locally as "Buctoo", it was famous for their "Minuteman" like response to "slave catchers". On several occasions the Slave catchers were themselves caught and treated to an oldtime tar and feather party, tied to a rail and unceremoniously carried out of the town. Obviously the town name came from an escaped slave or slaves that knew of the original.
