Just bought a copy of Hendrik van Loon's "Story of Mankind" in a second hand book shop for 50 cent.
I read this book first when I was 12 or 13 and it had a great impact on me and was partly responsible for my interest in history.
It's a highly personal and biased account of history from the dawn of time to the 20th century, but it's very entertaining and gives you a excellent introduction into all things historical.
Has anybody ever read this and can share my youthful enthusiasm?
