......... and other explosives had never been invented missles, nitroglycerine, etc. How do you think history would be affected? what would armies look like?, what sort of technological advances would have been made? how what would technology be like today?. Post your thoughts and be realistic.

How does it (even slightly) support the speculation about present-day weaponry if gun powder were unknown?? Judgements of this kind simply don't belong to 'serious speculative' discussions.

If gunpowder had never been discovered I'm thinking that we would still have heavy cavalry that would be col to see the hussar and the klibanophoros, and archers, I wonder if we would have planes? What sort of technology would we have?. One more thing, God I love this site!!!!Big%20smileBig%20smileSmileSmileClapStarApproveLOL

So what do you think the world would look like?Smile I think we would still have the cataphract I'm not sure about the knight he might still be around but this time as a professional soldier because feudalism is outdated. It would be way cool to see the american revolution wihtout gunpowder I think it be cool to see American longbowmen and horse archers against the redcoat pikemenClap

Still have cataphracts?  No way.  Especially since the introduction of laser surgery.  They can be removed in same day surgery. Wink

If this is what passes for serious discussion on this forum...Disapprove

If gunpowder had not be invented, the science of ballistics would rule the battlefields, and battles would remain up close and personal between masses of soldiers supported by steam-powered ballistic weapons firing arrows, spears, rocks and probably fletchettes by the thousands.

Cavalry would not dominate the battlefield because they are too vulnerable to heavy weaponry and too easy to mount a defense against.

Instead, "rtanks" and AFV's - although not armed with cannon or MG's but more liekly flamethrowers - would dominate carrying soldiers to take advantage of breaches in enemy lines.

Eventually, an alternative pyrotechic/explosive would've been developed..
