Hillary Rodham Clinton was born in Chicago, Illinois (USA) on October 26th, 1947. She is married to Bill Clinton (the 42nd President of the United States) and was the First Lady of the United States from 1993 to 2001. She is a woman of many firsts. Not only was she “First Lady of the US”, but was also the first student at Wellesley College to speak at the commencement exercises, was the first woman partner at the law firm of Rose Law Firm (after she became a lawyer), was the first “First Lady” elected to public office, was the first woman elected Senator from New York, and she was named one of the most influential lawyers in American in 1988 and 1991. She is now considered by some to be the most qualified candidate among the Democratic White House hopefuls. I may yet get to see the first female president of the United States! I wonder how other countries feel about that!

Is it possible for her to be on a ticket with Obama? I don't know how other countries feel about that but the general feeling I could feel in Europe is that even though some are afraid of her paradoxal bushism (on faith, war, etc) or find her too agressive (does she ever sleep?) most would be glad to see a new Cliton era, glad to see a woman reaching the top and anyway will be more than glad to see anyone else but GW in the white house. Obama is little known exempt that people are excited to see a black guy in the race and Giuliani is also well known and very appriciated in Europe as he represents (as Clinton does) the US before 2003. The Mormon guy and McCain are almost unknown but if they were elected I bet they wouldn't be loved at all. ------------- I am a free donkey! |

Other American women who have run for U.S. President are:
Victoria Woodhull, from Homer, Ohio was the first woman to run for U.S. President in 1838 (50 years before women were given the right to vote, but there were no laws impeding her from running). She was selected as candidate by the Equal Rights Party in the 1872 election. Of course, she lost to Ulysses S. Victoria Woodhull In 1964, Margaret Chase Smith ran for the Republic nomination in 1964. She was a U.S. senator from Maine. She became the first woman to have her name placed in nomination for the presidency by either of the two major parties. She came in second to Barry Goldwater. Margaret Chase Smith In 1972, Shirley Chisholm, a black New York congresswoman, sought the democratic nomination. The 1972 Democratic National convention in Miami was the first major convention in which any woman was considered for the presidential nomination.
