When a faithful Muslim man dies and enters Heaven/Paradise he is granted 72 virgins and 80,000 slaves by Allah.
Now I was wondering, where these 80,072 people actually come from.
Presumably they haven't lived on Earth yet, or have they?

Who cares about virgins anyways - the experience and maturity in a woman is way more important to a man.
Aside from that, the 72 virgins are mentioned in the Sharia I believe - but the reward is only available as a result of Jiihad - which necessarily doesn't mean to die as a suicide bomber.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I heard of the 72 virgins even from some of my religious teachers, i must admit. I surely refuse to belive it.
I made research and couldnt find any prove in the skripts of the islamic teaching.
I guess its an roumor witch is webt in the islamic history out of dark ages.
(the same ages when christian said the world is a plate)...
its interresting how its pushed now in the view of westerner about the islam.

Living through eternity with a bunch of grizzled, bearded men, cutting each other to pieces on a daily basis and eating pork for dinner every day, and when Ragnarok comes we will have to fight a bunch of giants, serpents and wolves knowing full well we are destined to lose. And by killed you mean eternally killed, since IIRC you still die in Valhalla it's just at the end of the day you're returned to life so you can feast.
Well i did hear they were "ever-renewing" virgins so certain acts might be difficult/painful. However i would guess you can still do certain acts that I don't think are Islam-approved.....

Above there are two articles talk about this particular issue, and the issue of suicide-bombers alongside it.
As I have mentioned before no such a promise is not part of Islam, or Islamic doctorine. It stands upon some weak hadith, that is not considered legitimate by Islamic scholars.
The Quran, the ultimate source of Islam does not mention such a thing.

Personal belief that a love based relationship is between one man and one woman.
Theologically speaking the four wives in the first place is something that was implemented as a deterrent for having children born out of wed-lock who had no rights to property in pre-Modern times, alongside the fact that warfare brought about a shortage in men in that time. The Prophet AFAIK advised monogamy as well.
It boils down to personal beliefs to which there is no theology.

It's difficult to think of any really theological reason in any religion I know of - though primarily it has to be Christianity that advocates it. The words of the Christian marriage service, generally, stipulate 'forsaking all others' and 'until death do us part' but I'm not aware of any injunction actually requiring that. (The second is nowadays anyway routinely ignored by most Christians.)
The ten commandments forbid adultery, but that never precluded having several wives (or husbands).
The key figure is of course St Paul. Not because he went on about it being better to marry than burn (which doesn't itself imply monogamy) but because of his saying 'Let every man have his own wife.' But even that seems to be, the way he argues it, a practical recommendation rather than a theological injunction.
His theologically preferred position was celibacy, not monogamy.

Not so, till death do us part, has to do with the forsaking of others. In heaven no one is forsaken and after death everyone is joined with each other, so marriage is irrelevant. In heaven everyone is 'married' to everyone else......and no there is no sex in heaven.
This is interesting, so monogamy could be challenged in orthodox christian belief (as Mormons have challenged.) Of course monogamy for the most part works out better in the world since the sexes are evenly distributed. I think it can be argued that the Christian practice of monogamy is the direct result of its intimate connection with ancient Rome, and possibly Greece, where monogamy was the social ideal. The early Church fathers seem much more concerned with celibacy, in particular the celibacy of priests and deacons, than polygamy as such.

These 72 are not real people. They are "hurris" made from light if I am not mistaken. It's funny though that the highest form of Allah's present is a life of polygamous sexual gratification!!! So many questions here. If I 'ma up there and hurris are made from light then what I 'm made of? Surely if my body is buried on earth then I'm the cohesive energies that took off for other realms at the point of physical death? Most religions believe that but the point is how you are greeted on the other side. 72 virgins? but then who would bother to count? Don't stand there, just start to mount! In the interests of equality one hopes there would be 72 virgin men to pleasure the ladies as well. But if we are made of energy stuff how could we get it on?
