Recently archaeologists in Israel have unearthed an ancient water system that once served a grand palace in the biblical kingdom of Judea. This 750 square foot system was used by the Babylonians, Persians, Romans and the Hasmoneans. But it was the Persians who renovated it in an attempt to "turn a desert into a paradise".
