There have been a series of articles in the Bosnian press lately about human trafficking. For the last several years the authorities here have been actively tackling organized crime - as can be witnessed by the attacks on judicial officials in Trebinje and Bihac, as well as targetted bombings against police officer's cars and headquarters in Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Tuzla, and Zvornik.

The measures have largely been successful with dozens of women freed from sex slavery and several large organized crime rings busted. Everyone was pleased, but now the consequences have become public.

In the first report of its kind, the Bosnian government released statistics related to domestic sex slavery - something which had previously been unknown in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The report states that because it is now more difficult to get foreign women into the country, organized crime rings are targetting Bosnian women instead.

More than 60 Bosnian women were captured into sex slavery but freed by authorities this year. 13 were under the age of 14. Only 4 women willingly went with their captors, and of these 4 only 1 was prematurely aware of what she was going to be doing. The majority of the victims were Bosnian Croat women from rural villages in the Republika Srpska. The majority of those arrested in connection with their kidnappings and enslavery were Serbs not of Bosnian origin and Albanians.

The public is outraged and many are actually calling for the prosecution of organized crime to stop. A common sentiment is that Bosnia has no responsibility to endanger its own women for Romanian nationals, who should be their countries responsibility. A spokeswoman for Napredak, one of the oldest Bosnian Croat organizations in the country, was quoted as saying Bosnia is giving up its most promising youth to save Romanian rubbish, which she has denied saying but before she did deny it many actually spoke up in her defense.

This is just insane? How the hell do you beat these people? What can they do to stop them?

The global sex industry amounts to dozens of billions of dollars every year,so it is very difficult to deter these pimps

maybe sentences should be trippled...That could have a dramatic efefct.

I ahve to admit medieval punishment sounds good to me. A articually ironic method would be to castrate male pimps....that would cut down numbers. However its more than a little harsh. That said, as a man, thwers no chance of me pimping (if there ever was) if theres a good chance of saying goodbye to my Crown Jewels...

castration...the only answer

there is no excuse for sex-slavery...especially when the "objects" are young girls/boys
