Sorry, haven't got the time to tell the full tale, but the Normans went much further than that. Under the leadership of the Hauteville familiy, Robert Guiscard and his son Bohemond, they invaded the Balkans and annoyed the great Alexios Komnenos for a little while.
Just look them up on Wikipedia for more info on the Normans and Byzantines.

Yes, the Normans were greatly feared and was part of the reason that Byzantine emporers shifted their focus for a while on Europe more than Asia Minor. This is why they eventually lost Anatolia to the Turks.

The loss of Anatolia wasnt due to the Normans, the Normans undoubtedly impeded early efforts to recover Anatolia but the damage was already done before Alexius came to the throne. After Manzikert Anatolia was wide open to thousands upon thousands of Turks to settle in, early incompetance made a bad situation far far worse, as much more land than was necessary was lost.

The Normans threatened to take over the Balkans, the lose of the Balkans and Anatolia would surely have killed the empire off there and then. The Byzantines suffered several defeats first by Guiscard and then by Bohemund, but ultimately the Normans were expelled.

A tomb now suffices him for whom the world was not enough.

No, sorry, I didn't mean all of Anatolia, merely Bithynia in NorthWest Anatolia.
