traditional, residential ARCHITECTURE
H O M E  S W E E T  H O M E

Whether it is a few decades ago or a few centuries ago, every nation on the face of the earth had its own way of building the sacred spaces where people felt comfortable making a home and a life for their families.

They often reflect something of the culture - for example, traditional Bosniak homes had very steep, high stairs leading up the men's rooms on the upper floors. This was to keep the children downstairs, with the women, where they 'belonged'.

Without a doubt, no matter how great the city, how great the country - the majority of its buildings are residential. They often form the character of a nation by demonstrating the wealth, social standing, and lifestyle of the families which call them home.

If we came to your country and were interested in buying a traditional home, what would you show us?

First, you must leave the districts of downtown Sarajevo.

Then you head East, towards to Old Town area of Sarajevo.

Once there, you start up the hillside, crowded with homes.

Finally you'll reach the home - open the gate, take a look around.

There's always a beautiful, private courtyard for celebrations with family and friends.

Wealthy families from Sarajevo demonstrated their power with elaborate woodwork.

It's time to venture inside.

Even by today's standards, the living quarters are quite comfortable.

And if you really like your home, get its portrait done for the living room!
