It is interesting to find some personal names which are common in some Indo-European languages, of course there are the names of some famous people which are used in most of Indo-European and even non-Indo-European countries, like Alexander and Darius.

But I mean those names which can be said to have a common origin, for example "Armin": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armin it seems to be a common Iranian, Germanic and even ancient Greek name.

Arjen  ( and variant Arjan) is a common name in the Netherlands, not considered a foreign name.
Its pronounced practically  the same as Sanskrit aryan ( meaning: noble) The Dutch 'j' in spelling is pronounced as 'y' in English 'yours'.

The football/soccer player Arjen Robben is probably the best known Dutch person with the name Arjen.

I don't know since when its used  in the Netherlands but there was a 18th century scientist named Arjen Roelofs.

The Dutch Wikipedia links it ( without supporting data) to Latin Adrianus  ( inhabitant of Adri near Venice) but it comfirms that Arjan is the variant. This rather suggests a relation with aryan.

The names of "kian" and "kiana" seems to be common in some Indo-European languages, of course it seems they have different meanings, for example in Persian they mean "king" and "queen".

What's the case with Nadya / Nadezhda? Typically it's a Slavic name but I've heard it has the same meaning of "hope" in Arabic.

Had a poke around on the internet myself, and what I found is a bit of a difference in Arabic, although if wrong I'm sure Cyrus or another member will rectify my error. What I found was the Arabic equivalent meaning delicate or tender.

Btw,leda, welcome to this site.
What a handsome figure of a dragon. No wonder I fall madly in love with the Alani Dragon now, the avatar, it's a gorgeous dragon picture.

According to wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nadia

Nadia is a female name, used predominantly in Italy, Spain, France, Russia and some Arab countries. Its origins are in the Slavic and Persian languages.

However Nadia is popular name among Iranians (Nadia Bjorlin, Nadia Golchin, ...) but according to my Persian dictionary, it has either Arabic or French origin, in Arabic it means "euphonious" from the root neda "sound".
