Report: Turkey Attacks Suspected Kurdish Rebel Targets, Killing at Least 20

ANKARA, Turkey –  A Turkish news agency says the country's air force has killed at least 20 people in raids against suspected Kurdish rebel targets.

The attacks reportedly occurred late Wednesday on along Turkey's border with Iraq, where Kurdish rebels are based.

The Dogan news agency said at least 20 people were killed, but the pro-Kurdish Firat news agency put the death toll at 35 "civilians."

Dogan quoted villagers in the border area as saying the dead are believed to include smugglers that the Turkish military mistook for Kurdish rebels trying to enter Turkey from Iraq.

There was no immediate comment from Turkish officials.

You'd think that Turkey with its massive spare hectares would be willing to compromise. I mean, the Kurds have been an identifiable people ever since Antiquity and haven't really assimilated very well in either Turkey, Iraq or Iran. But to be fair, these rebels are quite notorious human traffickers and sex-peddlers... I wouldn't know what kind of country they would create if given the opportunity.

Probably no worse than some of the other countries in the region. Afghanistan is a failed state, Yemen is on the brink of civil war, Syria's dictator is desperately clinging onto power, and Iraq only recently regained its independence from Bush's American Empire
