QuoteReplyTopic: Why was christianity so successful? Posted: 11-Jun-2011 at 20:44
Shortly after Jesus' death Christian missionaries like St Paul began spreading his teachings to the Gentiles, including the citizens of the Roman empire. What was it about this foreign Jewish sect that made so many people abandon the ways of their ancestors?
It had started as anti Roman movement, after that was adopted by Rome as official religion in Empire. It looks similar as Hippy&Punk movements created 20 centuries later!?!Last two have finished as fashion brands. Why did Rome need Christianity or religion similar as it?,would be better formulated question for us.
The Near Eastern religions like Christianity, Judaism and Islam work better for the rulling class than Pagan religions. So Constantine decided that Christianty was the best way to unite his multi-ethnic Empire into one state, and within 2-3 centuries Paganism -as any other religion- was forbidden. In fact there where a lot of anti-pagan pogroms after Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire...
