QuoteReplyTopic: Books/Articles on Pantelleria and Barbary States Posted: 06-Apr-2011 at 07:03
Hi!
I hope this is the right forum to ask this question – I haven't been able to find a good place online to ask, and this seems like a great community.
I'm writing a piece of fiction that takes place on Pantelleria in the 16th c. and I'm looking for more information about the island, especially the specifics on the people who inhabited it earlier. I'd love a recommendation for a good book or journal piece on the island, especially the sesi burial mounds, the bronze-age settlements, and the Rodi-Tindari-Vallelunga civilization in general.
I'm also looking for a good book on the early Barbary States in the mid- to late-16th century – specifically Tunis and coastal Algeria, but the States in general as well, everything from culture, native religion (and how it married with Islam), the Berbers as a cultural group, and ideally snippets of Berber languages from that era.
Thank you so much! And if there would be a better place to seek this sort of advice, I would also appreciate being pointed in the right direction!
