I am researching family history and wonder if anyone can help me.
If a persons ancestors come from these regions -
What ethnic mix would they most likely be ?
I know "Slavic" would pretty much cover it but, if these ancestors were around within the last 150 years, would be the most likely ethnicity or racial mix?
I can understand the difference between Celtic and Germanic as white skinned races, etc but I have trouble understanding what sets the Slavs apart and why, although white in appearance, why do they have noticeable differences in appearance?
what is the difference between East slav /south slav etc?
And how much of a mongol or Turkic influence genetically and culturally can be found within the Slavs?
The person in question is me of course, I am exploring my roots, I am not Tartar, this I know, but am curios about Slavic history, and how it relates to the Nomads of the steppes, the Turks and Arabs etc
Exactly what is in the Slavic genes that sets them apart from other Caucasian races?
Why is it that many Slavic people can look so exotic compared to western Caucasians such as British, I find some can have Nordic traits and some Asian almost in appearance yet still white skinned? Is it just the different climates or is there historic reasons behind these variations?
Why is Slavic used so broadly to identify such a large portion of the white world stretching from from the Balkans to eastern Russia when on the other side of the white world there are more diverse labels, eg Celtic, Germanic, Nordic, Mediterranean used to describe various Caucasian groups when clearly Slavic peoples vary widely in appearance from almost Indian and Greek in appearance to pale red heads?
Sorry a whole host of questions there, can anyone enlighten me ?
(PS: I am no expert on this subject so forgive me if im using incorrect or politically incorrect terms, Im genuinely interested in history and genetic diversity and what makes the people of this world so wonderfully diverse)
Thanks Folks.
