At the above site, it is reported that two fingers and a tooth, believed to be those reported missing from the body of Galileo have been found. It seems some of his fans looted these body parts in 1737 as his remains were being transfered to his new crypt in Florence. But what is really amazing is the reported great flood that hit the same city some years later like in 1966 when at least 7 feet of water filled the Duomo.
I cannot find any exact information concerning the condition of the bodies of the greats entombed inside this church, but it is sometimes considered that most all of the remains might well have burst from their containers and become mixed together?
If that is so, then the bones recently found could be compared to what ever was found after the flood. But,it is more likely that this will not be done.
