Hi everyone,

I am interested in learning  the shamanistic practices in modern turkish culture that is if there are any left, still.

Also the relationship between Turks and Native American (Injuns) tribes and indigenous peoples.

Any books films or websites?

Here is an interesting page:  www.melungeons.com

or   http://ireland.iol.ie/~afifi/Articles/turkic.htm

From Anatolia to Appalachia: A Turkish-American Dialogue
N. Brent Kennedy, Joseph M. Scolnick (Editor)

From Anatolia to Appalachia: A Turkish-American Dialogue
FROM THE PUBLISHER
Turkic people have been migrating to America for many centuries, but this significant influx has been largely unrecognized. In From Anatolia to Appalachia, Scolnick and Kennedy initiate a dialogue regarding this neglected area of American history and culture. This volume begins the communication with an essay reviewing existing evidence followed by interviews with knowledgeable persons about selected aspects of the population movements. An introduction and conclusion give focus and unity to the various elements of the dialogue.
SYNOPSIS
Most often found in the Southeastern Atlantic region of the U.S., the Melungeon people have a complex ancestry that apparently includes Caucasian, Native American, and Black forebears. This text focuses on the possible ancestral link between the Melungeons of Appalachia and the people of Turkey. Included are a dozen interviews with persons who have taken part in the Melungeon story as well as information on recent DNA findings. The volume lacks an index. Annotation 2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

I have read two books on the Meluncan, and I think Earthwalker is refering to the subject on the Turkish migration over to North America, 10-15 thousand years ago, which formed the Native American tribes.  The Meluncan came here much much later.  You gave good sources though.

I knew of one web site that mentioned the similarities between some Native American languages and Ancient Turkish.  I forgot the site but will look for it and post it once I find it.

Today, despite it is used by some "seperatist" for other purposes, "Alevi" belief of Anatolia which is even defined as not a branch of Islam, but a different religion, is a belief of the composition of Islam, Anatolian Culture, Zoroastrianism and mostly, ancient Shamanism. They have lots of common beliefs and traditions with central asian Alevis. Lots of them are Anatolian Turkmens...

I couldn't find the original site I was talking about at first but I found three sites that are just as good, maybe even better, and mention the same similarities.

earthwalker,

I was going to recommend the Melungeons website but someone else beat me to it!  Instead, I recommend you read the book "Sons of the Conquerors - Rise of the Turkic World" by Hugh Pope - it's got a section to do with the native americans, melungeons etc.

Dear Earthwalker do you speak, read and understand Turkish? If yes I will advice you to read articles about the order of Bektaschi/Bektai. And my article about "wooden sword" If yes I will attach the pages.

You can find in webb many pages in english about the order of Bektaschi/Bektasi.
