Reply:

I would like to add that Deng Zi Long was about seventy at the time of the final battle in which both he and Yi Shun Shen bravely gave away their lives in combat.

Deng Zi Long was born in 1531 in Jiang Xi Province.  His other name was Wu Ciao.  He was promoted to a minor officer in 1558 after passing the military version of the civil service examination.  During the Jia Jing years, he joined the efforts of the Ming resistance in the Sourthern coasal areas against Japanese pirates.

Deng Zi Long was transferred to the Yun Nan Province in Southwestern China in 1583 and promoted to Can Jiang (rank three, equivalent to a little higher than colonel).  Due to his success at his post, he was again promoted to Fu Zong Bing (rank two, equivalent to lieutanent general).

In 1592, due to wrongful accusations, Deng was forced to resign his post and return to his home in Jiang Xi.  In 1598, he regained his rank and was appointed the commander of the Ming navy in Korea.

During the last year of the war in Korea (1598), Deng Zi Long was 68.  During the last naval battle, Deng Zi Long commanded three vessels to cut off the Japanese rear.  When the Japanese called for counterattack, he, along with 200 seamen under his command, boarded Japanese ships and fought courageously till his death.  He was unable to witness the final victory of the Chinese and Korean forces against Hideoyoshi's troops.

A multi-talented man, Deng Zi Long's legacy was not limited to his martial arts talents and his military accomplishments; he was also a famous calligrapher and poet, and his works on poetry and military philosophy have survived to the present period.

I thought Jin Lin was the commander of the Chinese navy in Korea when the battle of Noryang took place?
