I am wondering if any other cutlure did develop technologies as sophisticated as Greek at that time? how about contemporary Chinese? Indians? or Egyptians?
Chinese developed hydraulic-mechanical clockworks that had escapements and celestial spheres that showed heavens with precision. However, that happened in the Middle Ages; a thousand years after the Greeks. Arabs also had wonderful clockworks, but they also come from the middle ages. I don't know about India and elsewhere, but I doubt it. In the Americas, clockwork was unknown because the lack of wheels and gears, however, air-presure toys existed, made in clay.
