Apparently Afrikaans is the bastard child of English and Dutch, my South African friends have a whole list of native words they think are ridiculous in their language.

I had watched a movie about South Africa called "Tsotsi" .Among else ,i also strongly recommend it for the language.

Hmm, Afrikaans probably has more African influence and as much Portugese and Asian influence as it does English.
An English/Dutch hybrid it is not.
IIRC its based largely around an older varient of teh S. Hollands dialect, mixed with other influences, and then left to mature for a few centuries.
Arrrgh!!"
