So you're not a fan of wiki.......... me too.... Why is it the few subjects I know a lot about, the 30-40% of the time the wiki article is wrong to the point of ineptitude?

The most important battle in the history of the ~British Empire ar eth most neglected. 18th century actions against, as Blackadder would say, native with very sharp pices of fruit are largely irrelevant. In the late 17th century and early 18th, the incumberant Euroepan power was France. Empires when emerging have to beat the incumberant power (France beat Spain) more time they lose than not (Germany/British Empirte wwi). Britain as underdog beat Louis xiv France as underdog. There was the founding of the empire.

Your hope would be enough;
we couldn't find neither;
we made up sorrows for ourselves;
we couldn't be consoled;

Considering extra-European, therefore 'imperial', battles, key ones on land are Plassey (1757 - India), The Plains of Abraham (Quebec, 1759), Yorktown (Virginia, 1781), Seringapatam (India, 1799), Gujarat (India, 1849), Alexandria (Egypt, 1882 - not much of a battle, but a significant event).

In South Africa, the most famous battles (Colenso, Spion Kop, 1899-1900) were defeats for the British, who nonetheless eventually ground out victory in the war through a series of minor victories. (The Second Boer War, was I think the first in which Australia, Canada and New Zealand sent troops to fight alongside the British troops from the UK and the Cape, making it possibly the first time the battles were truly 'Empire' ones.)

I think it was the most notable battle overseas, given the fact that it paved the way for the domination of India, which was the center of the Biritish Empire, as Lord Curzon described.

Also The British could defeat The French and The Indians despite the fact that they were heavilky outnumbered

1919, Bakhtiari and Qashqai tribesmen annihilated the Royal Persian Rifles (British imperialist force), and that was the end of that.
