QuoteReplyTopic: [help] Old Turkish text translation needed! Please Posted: 11-Oct-2006 at 11:20
Hello everyone! I am Milantex and I am really glad to have found a forum where there are many people who like languages!
I myself like and study ancient languages, traditional ones in use today and some new ones too... SUM: Ancient Egiptian, Latin, Greek, Japanese, Russian, Serbian (main language of mine), English (Dah!!!), Sindarin, Quenya...
Right now I have a problem!
I do not study Turkish, but I need help with a translation of a text written on a sword that my dad bought today! It is an old one... Turkish jatagan and darn sharp!
I couldn't write the text on the PC 'cause I simpely can not find the match for all the letters even though I've tried! Here is somethign that I managed to make in Photoshop 'cause I can not scan it even! ^_^ Gomen, gomen!
I do not have a scaner of a camera so I just wrote it in photoshop.. it is like that! Written with silver on steel!
It is from right to left that I wrote... exactly as it is on the sword itself!
Is there any hope or should I try and get a camera and take a picture of it then? Nee?
Hey Milantex, Welcome to AE!
I going to need a photo of the sword inorder to be able to (try to) translate it. My Ottomans a bit rusty so i going to need all the help i can get.
It seems to be dated at 1226 Hijri (1811 AD) during the reign of Sultan Mahmud II. Thus the tugra on the sword is most likely to write the typical "Mahmud II Khan bin Mustafa IV Muzaffir daima" (Mahmud II Khan son of Mustafa IV the always victorious).
Hope i was of help and looking forward to seeing a photo.
