It is pretty straightforward. Comment on it.

Indirectly, maybe.
It was more about shoring up the regimes in the Gulf region, who were (still are somewhat) favourable to the US. Of course, Saddam being the agressor meant that lots of countries were willing to help out.

Thats what i thought.
He obviously means Gulf war.
Either its a typo, or English isn't his first language (gulf = golf in some langauges).

Sorry for the Golf misspelling, I am sick today. It is Gulf. The best thing was that I "proofread" the post before posting.

Not as much as the current war is for oil, certainly.

I think it was mostly the fact that America couldn't be caught redhanded supporting such a perpetrator.  After all, how would it look for America if the guy they supported invaded an innocent neighbour and America did nothing about it?

I actually dont think the current war is that much about oil, but the first one absolutely 100%  The curretn one is mor about misguided idealism.

I think it partially was. At least is wasn't to liberate Kuwait, because on the same moment the US actively supported other rgimes that occupied other countries (like Indonesia occupying East Timor).

I think an important reason was making sure Saddam wouldn't invade other US friendly oil supplying countries.
