Topic: Beauties (Pictures) of your Country Posted: 14-Nov-2009 at 07:10 |
My country is one of the most beautiful countries both naturally and architecturally (maybe not by Government ), anyway there are some historical buildings in the northern jungles of Iran, one of the most famous and beautiful ones is the ancient Rudkhan castle, one the largest castles in Iran which occupies an area of about 5 hectares and sits at the two peaks of a mountain:

Dear Sander,
Any idea why on some old drawings of this city is it called "Amstelredan?" or "Amstelredam?"
I know that "Amstel" is an original name or word, that is carried on via the beer by the same name. But, "redan" means "fortress"! Was the original name "The Fortress City of Amstel?"
Regards,

This is old site. The other is new, made by people who were not able to invent their own forum and tried to steal the idea and work of Cyrus.

Amstelredam is indeed found on older maps and poems of the 1500s , but Amstelledam is found on the oldest one ( 1275 ) when it was just a smal village.
Amstel is the name of the local river and Amstelle is the old version. Dam is dam.

Thanks Sander! Yes it does present somewhat of a problem when one is dissecting the old languges? But the sentence above is just my opinion?
But, your use of "dam is dam", is most unusual? Just why could it not mean "dame", or was there really built a "water blocker, called a "'dam', built at this point in the river, at this time?": thus, if not, then what is history left with?

Azadi, those are really nice photos, but where are these places? Kurdistan is really a large region, do you consider a region in the northeast of Iran (Kordkuy, ...), as an isolated part of Kurdistan?

Cyrus Shahmiri, "officially" Kordkuy is not considered a part of Kurdistan, and this is widely accepted by most Kurds (excluding those from Irani-Kurdistan) - f. ex. because it's too isolated, and they never felt any cultural connection to it.
The pictures above are from Iraqi-Kurdistan, South Kurdistan - most of them are from the area north of Hewler, but those beautiful mountains covered in snow for example are from Maragah and Sirsenk. There is also some from the area around Sulimaniya, and the Salahuddin province. (I did not post pictures from the Kurdish city of Kerkuk and it's surroundings, because I thought it would be offensive and provoke people).
I'll post some more pictures from South, before I move to the other parts. I'll also write up name and exact place on the map for each picture.

Menumorut, you seem to be an expert photographer! That beautiful bridge is similar to a bridge in the north of Iran:
Azadi, thanks for info, do you know where this one is:

Wow Cyrus that is a very beautiful picture! I'm sure it was photoshopped a little bit though. I've been to Northern Iran before, it was very beautiful but too polluted!

That particular photo you mentioned Cyrus, is the city of Rewanduz. You can find gorgeous waterfalls in this area too, as a matter of fact it is one of the greenest part of Kurdistan.
