Everyone has been discussing the greatest U.S. Presidents, but how about the greatest British leaders?  They have a longer list to choos from, so it will be interesting to hear everyone's opinions.

I pick:

5.)Margret Thatcher

4.)William the Conquerer

3.)Winston Churchill

2.)King Arthur

1.)Queen Elizabeth I

technically Elizabeth and William weren't British and Arthur never existed.

but in the same vein, I'd go for,

1. Clement Atlee - Disbanded the Empire, freed India, Nationalised major private companies, created the welfare state.

2. Harold Wilson - Kept Britain out of the Vietnam War and joined the EU.

3. Oliver Cromwell - Freed the country from despotism.

4. Duke of Wellington - Passed the Catholic Emancipation Act

5. Caractacus - never said die

Elizabeth never ruled Scotland amd William barely ruled England let alone Scotland and Wales.

99% of historians most definately haven't proved Arthur's existence. Their is no evidence and the few writings about him come centuries after the time he was supposed to have lived, when already in folk law. The only chronicaller of the corect time period, Gildas, doesn't even mention him.

I guess we'll agree to disagree.  I will FOREVER believe in Arthur because of the MULTIPLE things I have read on the man's existance.

Modern England is really just an extension of Australian imperialism anyway. Vaughan played for aussie clubs and most of your coaches are australians
