    Posted: 03-Feb-2006 at 22:05

During the time of Northern Yuan dynasty, The great emperor of Mongolia Dayan Khan devided his people into 6 parts:

Left(eastern) wing:  Chahar, Halha, Uriangkhai.

Right(western) wing: Yungsiyebu-Kharchin, Mongolcin-Tumet, Ordos.

Halha Mongols comprised 2 branches, the northern group of 12 clans was the direct ancestors of the morden Mongolians, while the southern group of 5 clans belongs to Inner Mongolia.

The Northern Halha clans:

1) Uusin and Jalair.

Uusin was one of the Nirun Mongols, I will give more infos about this clan under this thread later:

The Eljigen was one of the Darlegen Mongols.

3) Kergud and Khorlas(Gorlos)

The Kergud was regarded t an alternative form for the Kirgis in Mongolian.

The Khorlas(Gorlos) was one of the Darlegen Mongols, and was thought a branch of the Hongirats(Onggirat).

4) Horogo, Buriy-e and Cohogur

I have no knowledge about this 3 clans now.

5) Keregyed and Hadagin

The Keregyed was an alternative form for the Kereit, one of the largest tribe during the time of Chinggis Khan.

The Hadagin(Hatagin) was one of the Nirun Mongols.

6) Tangud and Sartuul

The Tangud was the descendants of Tangut empire(The western Xia dynasty recorded by the Chinese) in Mongolia. They was a branch of the ancient Tibetians.

The Sartuul was the descendant of the Sarts.

7) Urianghai

The original Uriangkhai was one of the forest dwellers in Siberia, Halha's Uriangkhai was probably the descendants of the Uriangkhai tumen, who was defeated by the Halha and other Mongols.
