As the title says, who and what are your favorite
books and authors belonging to the historical fiction genre?
I have read books from authors such as Whyte,
Bernard Cornwell, VAlerio Masimo Manfredi, Steven Pressfield, and a
whole lot more.
Though i must admit i liked some of the boks by the
authors stated above, others i have failed to read or, in my opinion,
are not really well written.
Your thoughts?....
There is no doubt, in fact, that the gods use certain men for the purpose of punishing the evil of others, turning them into slaughterers, before they, too, are destroyed
You can also state several reasons why these books
you prefer should be read, and you can also give a somewhat short blurb
or literary review on the book of your choice...

snoop around the topics here: there have already been discussions about that. I've read historical fiction by Umberto Eco, Wilbur Smith, Gary Jennings, Gore Vidal, Marguerite Yourcenar, James Clavell, James Michener, Eleanor Cooney, Judith Tarr, George MacDonald Fraser, Maurice Druon, etc. etc. Too many to name them all...
My favorite right now have to be the Flashman books by George MacDonald Fraser (look at my avatar).
What is history but a fable agreed upon?

Right now im reading an interesting alternative history, altough it is Fantasy book. Its authour is Jacek Piekara and the title of first of 3 books is "Servant of God". In the book the history has changed when Jesus Christ was cruficied. He simply went down the cross and punished his opressors with pain and sword and funded his kingdom on earth. The action of the book takes place in the 16th century in the Holy Roman Empire. The main protagonist is inquisitor Mordimer Madderdin who fights against heresy, burns warlocks and witches. Pretty funny thing. Here is the front page of the book showin Christ going down from cross to punish his oppresors
