Topic: Boot Iran out of the World Cup finals? Posted: 14-Jan-2006 at 16:29 |
football is a kind of war !
everybody who ever played or watched it ,must agree.
there also exists a left football and the oposite. if you want to know
more about it , you have to read a book from the former manger of
argentina caesar luis menotti.

You're right! Football is a way for nations to slug it out without actually killing each other

What desperation would the U.S. be showing if they indeed banned Iran
from the World Cup? Theyre not sanctioning them militarily or
economically.... but athletically?

well if iran gets banned then bann every other country that acts
inspite of the UN. Isreal, USA and Britain are some countries that have
done so already.

Of course Iran should not be banned and I doubt your information is correct, no one seriously thought Iran should be banned so do not spread this.
Why should America be banned? This makes no sense.

to ban england is a very brilliant idea. why nobody thought about that earlier ?

I find it wrong that the UK doesn't have ONE team. The kingdom, because that's what it is, should not be allowed to get 4 teams in the qualification rounds: England, Scottland, Wales and NI. They should just form one UK "Dream Team" (imagine Duff, Becks, Giggs, Given, Gerrard, Terry... in the same team) and give some more slots to the african nations (only 5 teams out of around 50 fifa members)...
Cheers.

No way! I'm sick of this kind of politics! There've been to many such bans and boycots. Let the sport be sport (or at least what money had left of it). I mean fun, fair competition, etc.

Speaking of Fair Play
Kaveh Mahjoob
Ever since sports became international and Olympics and World Cups took over the world stage for weeks at a time, politicians have tried to take advantage of the sports to further their policies. Over and over, sports international bodies have tried hard to resist and stop politicians influence. Most of the times, sports administrators have been successful and at times they have given up to the pressure.
The 2006 World Cup is the most important sporting event of this year and once again, we read and hear almost on daily basis the attempts that are being made by politicians from different countries to mix politics with sports. This time the target is the Iranian National Team that has qualified for Germany. The premise of these voices who are asking to ban Iran is not to hurt people but make a political statement against the the policies of the Iranian government.
These politicians want to punish the Iranian government by banning Irans national team. Let us be very clear and honest about this. Banning the Iranian national team from Germany, serves no purpose but punishing the Iranian football fans. In the case of Iran, that will be the entire nation. It does another more long lasting damage. The true damage would be to the very institute that has stood up for peace and friendship.
Let us remind ourselves why World Cup and Olympics are so important in this stressful and unkind world. These sporting events are The Only worldwide events that are based on friendship, sportsmanship and peace. It seems like FIFA understands these concepts very well and so far has resisted calls for banning Iran. Until now, FIFA has also insisted that it respects the separation of sports and politics.
So far, FIFA has stayed true to its Fair Play slogan.
And the true sports fans throughout the world would expect FIFA to continue to play it fair with the institutes Fair Play.

Iran's team might ban itself who
knows, right?! Iran's just lucky that Israel didn't qualify for the WC,
otherwise there wouldn't be any need for the proposal; "If Israel
is in, we're out!"

You would support Israel in a football match with Iran anyway.

Scotland and England in the same team? Where's the fun in that?
And they started the game, they deserve it. Besides you could as well start arguing for a EU team if you want to join those two.

I see no reason why the Iranian football squad and staff should be punished in a competition they have earned a place in just to put pressure on Ahmadinejad.
