Contrary to popular belief ancient armor didn't weigh as much as it is made out too, and the scale armored assyrians annihilated the egyptians. A full suit of medieval plate armor didn't weigh much more than modern body armor, and some experts say that medieval armor made form hardened steel could withstand just about anything and there is armor of proof that could stand up to just about anything even early musket balls, and roman segmented armor could take a direct hit form a ballista and the wearer would survive, and the romans could walk twenty miles carrying seventy pounds of equipment and still be ready to fight.
