All nations have its great moments and usually there are painters who make paintings about it. I love the paintings of the XIX. historical romanticism. Please post pictures about them and tell us briefly what they show.

One of my favouriote:

Ladislaus the Cuman meets Rudolph Habsburg at Marchfeld by Mr Than. It was painted in 1872 to symbolize the Austrian-Hungarian friendship. It depicts the battlefield of Marchfeld, where the Bohemian king Ottokar was defeated and killed by Ladislaus and Rudolph.

he assasination attempt of Felician Zch by Soma Orlai Petrics.

It depicts Felician Zach who attacked the royal family in diner time. He managed to cut four fingers of the queen and wounded the king (Charles I of Anjou) himself. He also tried to kill the young princes, but the tutors of the princes finally killed him. It is said that he wanted to revenge his daughter who was raped by the queen's brother Casimir (later the king of Poland) with the help of the queen.

RICHARD COEUR DE LION AND SALADIN AT THE BATTLE OF ARSUR
Book VIII..
Joseph-Francois Michaud .. Illustrated by Gustave Dore

Profound silence prevailed in the Christian army ; the black cuirasses of the Crusaders seeming to darken the horizon, while sixty thousand swords gleamed out from amidst clouds of dust. All at once the Christian infantry opened their ranks, and the cavalry rushed forward towards the enemy, drawn up on the banks of the torrent of Arsur. The king of England advanced with the main body, sweeping away the crowd of Saracens that opposed his passage, and pursuing them to the other side of torrent ; but whilst he yeilded to his ardour, and advanced before the Christian army, the chosen troops of the Mussulman descended from the mountains of Naplouse, and poured down upon the reae of the Christians. Richard was forced to retrace his steps to support the French and German, who were beginning to give way. The plain to which the battle was fought could scarcely contain all the combatants. The Christians and Mussulmans closed, and attacked each other man to man ; the foot fought pell-mell with the horse, exhorting each other to brave death. The cries of rage, despair, and agony were mingled with the clashing of swords, lances, and shields. The two armies, confounded and mixed together, became nothing but one horrible spectacle. - Book VIII

The (Crushing) victory at Narva, Novemeber 20th 1700. Swedes, led by King Karl the XII (the Hero King or the War King) befeat the Russians led by Charles Eugne de Croy (Dutch of French descent).

The Battle of Narva was an early battle in the Great Northern War in which a Swedish army under King Charles XII of Sweden defeated the Russian army of Tsar Peter the Great at Narva. It was a stunning Swedish tactical victory.
