Hmm... I also expected it to be much larger. It does not look strong enough to hold back a determined ship.

Then, at that time the ships (especially Ottoman ships) weren't strong enough. Also it was defended by Byzantine and Venetian navies. So it has a reasonable size I think. At least it worked so that Mehmed II had to transport his navy over the hills

Yeah the chain is smaller than i thought. Maybe because the Ottoman ships at the time were small as well

The Ottoman Ships wer definately smaller compared to the venetian ships at that time. the ottomans only started to upgrade there navy in size and technology, after the capture of constantinople. during sultan suleyman the magnificents reign, there was no navy in the world that could match the strength of the ottoman navy. Hence that was when we captured tunisia and algeria and defeated a combined venetian and spanish fleet. although in 1571 we lost a decisive battle against the christians which bought the end of Ottoman Strength in sea, and opened the doors for the christian colonization of the world.

I don't think the chain is that small. Its still a very large chain. I dont' think you can cut it with a pliar.
