Topic: Shadow walkers- viking lore Posted: 23-Nov-2005 at 18:42 |
I was listening to a fictional tape about the Danish invasion of England and their defeat by King Alfred. The main character, a young boy, talks about shadow walkers.
Question to the experts on Norse mythology:
Are the shadow walkers part of Viking lore or is this something the author added to embellish the story?
If it is true then please direct me to a web site because I cannot find anything so far and I won't waste too much time on this.

Never heard of a shadow walker, not that I'm a world leading authority or anything . . .

*scri(dh)an sceadu-genga*, a gliding shadow-walker
From the Anglo-Saxon poem Beowulf (describing the monster Grendel).
Not quite Viking, but fits with the shape shifters (who can take on the form of an animal).

Could you write what exactly that boy told about them and why? Did he mean the invaders or he was just talking about anything else?
