Topic: Anatolian Turks are really mixed nation? Posted: 29-Aug-2005 at 20:27
this is a question for the Turks in here
I knew Turkic people of Altai Area has many dfferent fenotypes, so why
not in Anatolia? Do u believe the claim of mixed nation?(this is a new
violence that discovered by some journalists in Turkey nowadays)
and this question is for agreed people in this forum with those journalists;
plese remember, in Anatolia only Turks were Muslim, so how could it be?
(i think, believing every newspaper texts is not so good idea)
How could this be? Easily. Special taxes for non muslims were put into place, and many not heavily religious people converted for the simple reason of not having to pay this tax. Times were hard for the average peasant, so converting would save precious money. Also, first born males were taken from Christian families to be trained in the jannisaries, also this converted the young people.
