The Naval Battle of Zonchio (Navarino), 1499The battle shown here was fought in August 1499 off Zonchio, north of Navarino (Peloponnese). The combatants were a Turkish vessel commanded by Kemal Ali (shown standing on the deck of his ship), and two Venetian vessels commanded by Antonio Loredan and Albano d'Armer. The Turks were victorious; Loredan was killed when his ship was burnt, and Armer was taken as a prisoner to Istanbul, where he was sawn into pieces on the order of Bajazet II. This is possibly the first print of an actual naval battle. MIRROR SITE The Naval Battle of Zonchio (Navarino), 1499Druzhina Illustrations of Ottoman Costume & Soldiers

The sailing ship Andrew Jackson was built by the firm of Irons & Grinnell in Mystic, Connecticut in 1855.

Dear Shield, etc., I could post suggestions of ships for a long time, if I had the ability!
But, I would suggest you look for yourself! It is much more satisfying than having someone else do it for you!
Regards,

Any beautiful battle ships from the ancient period, up to 1100 AD?

I'd think you'd have to name a specifc event or building. For instance
-- last night, I was looking at pictures of the previous storm in
Galveston -- the 1900 hurricane. It is really good but now I am having
trouble connecting to it.

Sapna1: Please do not post advertising links, unless it is relevant (thus it goes in the 'advertising and legations' subforum). Many thanks, Knights.

My favourite vessel, training ship Georg Stage - not really a warship, but it's the smallest full-rigged ship, and also the prettiest, imho. It looks better in real life, though.

someone might have already done these, but... ..blast. It keeps saying the pictures URL has an "error loading, check the path name" or something. err..anyways... 1) Canoes. I love the sleek, streamlines style of them, and how much can be done with boats that are so simple, yet elegant. 2)LONGSHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIPPPPPPPPSSS!!! Where else do you find ships with dragon carvings on the prow, shields on every side, and that were used to attack constantinople?
