So i was wondering if anyone has any credable information on the first known record of a "Vampire" or some creature of the sort. not taking about were-animals, but the actual blood or life sucking creature. In Slavic mythology there are afew examples of such a creature. Ex- the Mara, Vmpyr, etc.... in Greece i know there are a few legends also. SO which culture do you think came up with the idea first. doesnt have to be specificly Slavic or Greece.
Der Erste hat den Tod,
Der Zweite hat die Not,
Der Dritte erst hat Brot.

Slavs before adopting christianity were burning their dead. Vampires were a creatures of slavic mythology, one type of many strange subhuman monstrums in which slavs belived a man can change after death. After adopting christianity Slavs were no longer burning their dead but burrying them in christian style. So anyone who was somehow strange could have become a vampire. On many medieval slavic cementaries were found corpses with pierced hearts.
