Russia, China to conduct joint military exercises this year: Putin
< = src="http://media.fastclick.net/w/get.media?sid=10750&m=3&tp=7&d=j&t=s">
| NOVO-OGAREVO, Russia (AFP) Jun 30, 2005 Russia's President Vladimir Putin said Thursday during a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao that joint Russian-Chinese military exercises will take place later this year.
"Cooperation in the military-technical sphere and cooperation in the purely military sphere is in the process of expanding. This year we expect for the first time for many years to have joint military exercises," he said in Novo-Ogarevo, outside Moscow, after greeting the Chinese president.
Hu arrived earlier Thursday for a four-day visit to Russia.
Russian news agencies have quoted military sources as saying that the exercises will be dubbed "Friendship 2005" and will take place in August.
Hu welcomed what he said was a "positive tendency" in relations between the two giant neighbours, welcoming the fact that border issues have been "definitively resolved."

It can mean heaven or God, which is worshipped by pre-islamic turks and Chinese
alike. The Turkic word Tengri and Chinese word Tian actually has
the same roots.

Well put it this way, some of the earlier sinitic people specially the
nomadic Zhou came from west of China-proper, so there is a
possibility that they were related to proto-turks. However i must
say that this is only a theory, please don't cruxify me for thinking
this way. I'm sure there is not enough evidence to support either
side of the debate about a combined Turkic/Chinese/Korean origin theory either.
And about early Chinese religion, it was pretty much Shamanist to begin
with and the believe in "Tian" or Sky/Heaven persists to this
day. This is why the Chinese Emperor is called "Tianzi" or Son of
Heaven. Buddhism is an imported religion, the only genuine Chinese
religion is Taoism. Later, it was challenged by Nestorian
Christianity, Zoroastism(spelling), Manicheanism and Islam(there is a
claim that the Prophet Muhammed's uncle build a small red Mosque in
guangzhou but again, not much to back it up.)
