Hi!
I'm new around here. My name is Madeline. I'm a novice in history, I know very little. That's why I'm looking for your help.

I would like to ask you a question about the term "Syria-Palestine" in relation to the Ancient Near East. I have read a lot about Nebuchadnezzar and his conquests, but I would like to understand what the term "Syria-Palestine" refers to. Only the region of Syria and Palestine or also the regions of Transjordan and Asia Minor?
In a text it says that Nebuchadnezzar conquered the whole Phoenician coastal region, all Philistia, Judah, Damascus, etc. Would it be good to say that he conquered all of Syria-Palestine or better to say that he conquered a part of Syria-Palestine?
-Syria-Palestine is an exact synonym of Levant or Fertile Crescent?
-Syria-Palestine includes Egypt?

Another question: is Phenicia part of Palestine of Syria or of neither of the two regions?

Thank you for your answers!
Regards!

The modern Palestine included both Israel/(Western) Palestine and Transjordan/Eastern Palestine, but then Churchill or whoever choped off the east half to make Transjordan (which with the West Bank added was rename Jordan). Jordan includes Gilead, Ammon, Moab & Edom. But only Gilead was part of ancien Israel proper, not Ammon & Moab & Edom though they were reduced to subservience some times.

You'd have to check the Roman and Arab/Muslim and Turkish/Ottoman proper provinces/governors of the Syria-Palestine area.

Some maps do show Neo-Babylonian empire covering whole region between Tigris and Nile delta, others show maybe the Gilead/Ammon part inside their empire borders but maybe Moab and Edom outside. Neo-Babylonian included Judah and Egypt. The Arab town Tayma(?) was in Babylonian sphere?

Thanks for your reply. It has helped me a lot to locate myself. I'm analyzing them so I can ask another question.
For now, do you have a good book that can recommend me about this geographical area?
Regards!

I'm not really sure of one that covers the whole history. I only know some for certain time periods but not others. It also depends on what particular angles you are more interested in. Wikipedia is always a handy basic starter help.
Your local Library should have some books.

Source texts on Palestine/Israel/Judah/Philistia/Jordan/Canaan:
Bible (& maps that many have)
Apocrypha
Josephus's Antiquities/Wars of the Jews
Dead Sea Scrolls
Amarna Letters
Oxford's Bible dictionary/concordence
Derek Prince's Last Word on The Middle East
Keller's Bible As History
Millard's Treasures from Bible Times
Zehren's Crescent & The Bull
McEvedy's Penguin Atlas of Ancient History.

Phoenicia/Lebanon: Sancuhinathon; Moscati; Thubron's Hills of Adonis.
