Do you guys think that war was necessary for Bismarck to orchestrate in order to unit Germany or could have Diplomacy worked and spared the lives of thousands?

War was best, it shocked them into a quick unity. Diplomacy may have worked, but a million and one problems would have popped up to prevent it (not least of all the intervention of the countries opposed to German unity). War was surer, smoother and far far more definite and effective.
