Question:

Why do historians always say "Europe Recovered" when in fact, they never were civilized to begin with (except Roman/Italy), such countries as Britain, France, Germany, Spain, and Portugal?


The introduction on Medieval Europe section states:

"By the 1400s, Western Europe had fully recovered politically and culturally. With the advantages of syncretism, European technology and knowledge in the next period skyrocketed to take the lead in the world."
