Topic: Comes Da Pope!! And if Your Headed For Philly Posted: 25-Sep-2015 at 16:50 |
You can't get there from here. Or anywhere for that matter. We live 30 miles from Philly, and the huge electronic sign by the entrance to 295 says "Expect Delays"
You can get out, but you won't get back in without a special Papal pass.
At 10:00 PM the Ben Franklin Bridge, [which is the main route into philly from S Jersey] will close both ways until Monday at noon. [that hasn't happened since WWII]

It's been described on local news as the "popepocalypse" and "popeagedden".
Center City is foot traffic only, as is the bridge, it's very eerie. They even have 500 Nat. Guard, spread out through the city, which just underlines how strange all of this is.

If I was feeling better, I'd go down just to walk the BF bridge and back.
There is access to a mint station for the bridge train. It was never opened since 1927.

And that is why you should go...not necessarily because of el Papa....but because ya feel like burnt schitze. Just went thru a three day spat of you know what. Forced myself up and out into the sun and the wind.
I still felt crappy upon return to the lodge ...but while out the pains aches and cramps were not noticed. Good for morale. Good for the mind....as they said once long ago work through the pain.
So take 40 bucks... walk the bridge...find a bistro and eat a sandwich..drink some espresso and then sit on your porch and reflect on the flowers around the place.
amen.

Even if I was inclined to go into that mass of humanity, I would have had to start getting passes 2 weeks back.
