Regents

In November 1226 King Louis VIII of France died.    
His wife Queen Blanche of Castile became regent for their son Louis IX.      
Louis IX was twelve years old. Blanche had him crowned within a month of his father's demise in Reims.

King Henry III of England was crowned at the age of nine in 1216.      
From Henry's accession until he declared himself of age in 1227, England was governed by two men.     
William Marshall was the regent and Hubert de Burgh was justiciar.

Charles II of Spain was three years old when his father, King Philip IV, died on September 17, 1665.       
The Council of Castile (as the Regency Council) appointed Philip's wife and Charles II's mother, Mariana of Austria, regent for the minor sovereign.

James V was King of Scotland from 1513 until 1542.    
He became king at just seventeen months old, when his father, King James IV, was killed at the Battle of Flodden Field on September 9, 1513.     
During the minority of King James V, John Stewart, Duke of Albany acted as regent intermittently between 1514 and 1524.

Madeleine of France, also called Magdalena of Valois (1443-1495) was a daughter of Charles VII of France and Marie of Anjou.    
She married Gaston, Prince of Viana, son and heir of Gaston IV, Count of Foix.     
Prince Gaston died in 1470, predeceasing his father.      
Madeleine acted as regent for her children, Francis I and Catherine I, who were monarchs of Navarre.

Anna Leopoldovna, a niece of Empress Anna of Russia, was the regent of Russia from November 1740 to November 1741 for her son, the Emperor Ivan VI.    
Ivan was named heir to the Russian throne by Empress Anna in 1740, shortly before her demise.      
A few weeks later, the Emperor's appointed regent, Ernst Johann Biron, was arrested.     
Burkhard Munnich and Andrey Osterman appointed Anna Leopoldovna regent.

Anne of Austria was the Queen Consort of King Louis XIII of France.     
She served as regent for their son Louis XIV from 1643 to 1651.
