They have shown what they really are, criminals.  They aren't destroying anti Islamic art, they are removing it to sell on the black market.  Satellite pics show previously untouched arch. sites now pockmarked with holes made by looters.

The black market is being flooded with artifacts.  In many areas there are dealers on site, with cash in hand, waiting for artifacts.

It also seems as if even Islamic artifacts are fair game.

Experts suggest that 40% of previously unexplored sites have been destroyed, plundered for removable artifacts that are now hitting the underground antiquities market world wide.

These folks don't seem to give a crap about religion.  Boiled down, it appears they are classic have nots, looking for whatever they can find to sell for personal gain.

The said part is, when these folks are finally brought to task, and that will happen eventually, the damage will have been done.  There will be little that can be done to restore the damage, and none of these Morons will be held responsible.

Religious Fervor?  Bull! More like the fervor produced by empty pockets and the opportunity to fill them.

Indeed. Similar when the fundo Iranians first took control in 79. And these were Shia radicals.

This however..Iraq.. was not not expected. considering they ntl remain the disaffected Sunni's cut out of governmental participation under the Shia hegemony...so whether we like to admit it or not, there is a theological connection.

Without an effective response in Iraq and Syria this; as their funding through criminal acts and petro sales will continue.

As you have noted track the money but while you're doing that... as I have said..reduce the areas they control into utter ruin and desolation. particularly the oil fields.

Pinprick bombing and a limited strat plan coupled to a still non existent 'fighting' coalition..less the French, (who will not as of today act in Syria) is a no brainer as a no gainer.

But that argument has been hashed enough. It remains a cultural tragedy.
