I'm always amused when scholars redefine cultural development and social consequences when it comes to the concepts of a particular society's propensity for violence.
Many times they purport to be amazed by it's actual existence when they should have known better.
Most end up presenting hopefully, informed speculation, as often there is no record other than limited physical evidence. Or they don't even bother, as noted in the article, to address it.
Both of which can lead to bunkum...if not outright horse shitt.
The following is an exception. And deals with a region and culture I am more than just cursorily familiar with.
