Yep, that's the one. I chose him because he is the person who, in Recent History (that is, my timespan: 21 years) I most look up to. A genius at his trade, and a rare gentleman in the world he lives in. So he isn't exaclty an influential player in History, but the thread didn't specify that.

Stalinesque. I guess you are wrong here, Stalin was like a monster in the form of human, Robespierre was a human who had been visited by evil but in essence he remained pretty humane. He wasn't in the same class as Stalin or Hitler, he wouldn't have sent people to extermination camp, but he wasn't a saint either he commited some atrocities. but he had also some very beautiful ideas and he was very sincere, he did believe what he was doing was right. Stalin and Hitler were liars, all they wanted is the manipulation of the people for their own gain.

Heheheh, cool. When i started to read about Robespierre i thought he was a normal tyrant but the more I read about him, the more I discover about human nature. He is a wonderful subject to study and most people will find similarities btw Robespiere and themselves. that's why he is very hard to dislike. he is like this man who was trying to balance good and evil for the greater good of the mass, but he didn't quite know how to do that. So he went though a phase of trial and error. He clearly knew he was going to die though through his actions, he also knew he've made many mistakes, for some reasons he was the sacrificial lamp of the Jacobins.

If these are to be my favourite people, they should be the ones I intend to invite to my 101st birthday party (by which time I assume I should be in a position to communicate with them
The party will be held in the Mermaid Tavern (or the Elysian version thereof), which means I don't need to invite Shakespeare and Jonson and their friends, since they will already be there.
Given that, my current invitee list includes, in alphabetical order of surname:
- Roger Bacon
Aphra Behn Robert Burns Sir Richard Burton (without wife)
- Girolamo Cardano
Catullus & Lesbia Edith Cavell Lord Cochrane Erasmus David Hume Lily Langtry Alma Mahler-Werfel Moliere Lord Nelson & Emma Florence Nightingale Pericles & Aspasia Mary Shelley Ulysses & Penelope
while Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec will be specially invited to commemorate the occasion. Music will be provided by Bix Beiderbecke and the Wolverines. If Mrs Langtry deigns to sing, I will attempt to accompany her myself, since it's my party anyway.
Signor Cardano will organise the games of chance.
Later addition: Omar Khayyam will of course look after the bar among other things.
PS Is anyone else fond of Van Loon's "Lives"?

As it seems the propaganda from your side will never end.
Hate to break the news to you but Tsar Samuil was Bulgarian as Goce Delcev was also. There are noumerous neutral sites that will educate you before u become a synonym of laugh. A good start will be from here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsar_Samuil_of_Bulgaria
P.S I read recently in a site from some compatriots of yours to claim even that Kemal Ataturk was a Macedonian and not a Turk. I could care less about him but it makes someone wonder what kind of people believe such BS.

Personally, I
prefer these guys:
The originals:
The guy or gal that observed and thought how to make fire.
The guy or gal that invented the wheel.
The guy or gal that uttered the first word, along with the guy or gal that
understood what the first one was all about.
The guy or gal that drew the first picture on ground, rock or wherever else.
The almost contemporaries:
Edson Arantes Do Nascimento (aka Pel set football on fire)
Socrates (realized the wisdom in not assuming that we know)
Pope John XXIII (aka The Good Pope had extreme power and never abused
it)
Richard Lionheart (good leader strong king)
Saladin (aka Salah ad-Din Yusuf Ibn Ayyub very wise man)
Archimedes (good
brain - father of integral calculus, hydrostatics, static mechanics - generally
regarded as the greatest mathematician and scientist of antiquity and one of
the three greatest mathematicians of all time) sorry, I love this guy
Abraham Lincoln (great
leader against all odds, made the lace>USlace> what it was until recent history)
Leonidas (the
epitomy of patriotic sacrifice and defiance of perilous odds)
Albert Einstein
(need I say anything?)
Stephen Hawking (some
say he surpassed Einstein)
Theodoros
Kolokotronis (successfully led the armed Greek liberation from the lace>Ottoman Empirelace>)
Amelia Earhart
(flew a solo flight from the lace>Atlanticlace> to the Pacific
coast)
Nikola
Tesla (Serbian-American inventor, engineer, scientist - rotating magnetic field
principle, polyphase alternating-current system, induction motor,
alternating-current power transmission, Tesla coil transformer, wireless
communication, radio, fluorescent lights) sorry,
I love this guy too
Gene Rodenberry
(creator of Star Trek)
Leonardo da Vinci (drew superbly and invented like crazy)
Rowan Atkinson (gave life to Mr. Bean filled up our lives with
laughter)
Confucius (aka K'ung-fu-tzu or Kongfuzi - to love others; to honour
one's parents; to do what is right instead of what is of advantage; to practice
reciprocity, i.e. don't do to others what you would not want yourself; to rule
by moral example instead of by force and violence) sorry, I love many guys
Margaret
Brent (lace>Americalace>'s First Feminist)
Marie Tussaud
(Anglo-French modeler in wax established
a museum that remains a principal tourist attraction, now known as Madame
Tussauds)
>>After these people, many others have distinguished themselves.
I could go on for days. But these above will have to do.

oh i know that he means isa,but then again i see that the only historical proofs that say he exists say that he had a family, kids AND A FATHER.
He is also called eee-say,not geee-zus
the romans out -us after every name, and they didn't have eehh(i)so they wrote -je,"yesus"
so i wouldn't say he existed
